IB Program Coordinator & MS Spanish Teacher (FT), Southeastern PA
Newtown Friends School is seeking an outstanding and energetic candidate for the unique fulltime position of International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) Coordinator and Middle School (7th and 8th grades) Spanish Teacher. Each role is part time, combining to create a fulltime job.
IB Middle Years Program Coordinator: In 2019, Newtown Friends School was named a candidate school for the IB Middle Years program. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have paused our preparation to become a full IB world school. We will restart the process during the 2021-2022 school, and seek a Coordinator. The IB MYP Coordinator serves as the leader of the IB MYP program and is responsible, with assistance from the Lower and Upper School Head, and the Head of School, for the total operation of the program. The IB MYP Coordinator shall provide leadership, administrative and supervisory skills for the educational development of students and staff, as well as to help promote appropriate parent and community awareness. We are willing to train the person over the 2021 summer and fall to fully step into the role in January 2022.
Spanish Teacher: Applicants should have at least three years of relevant teaching experience. Candidates for the position must be familiar and comfortable with Immersion language programs and relevant methodologies. Spanish language proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking is required along with the ability to conduct classes in the target language.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required. An advanced degree is desired. The successful candidate will have excellent rapport with and knowledge of elementary and middle school students and enjoy working with them in a variety of school activities in addition to classroom teaching. Candidates must have the ability to work well collaboratively with colleagues. We seek candidates with expertise in providing students active, hands-on experiences that incorporate digital media technology. Candidates should have a desire to mentor and support students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership. Familiarity with Responsive Classroom and Quaker education is advantageous.
