PSMLA Xperitas Language Matters Award

XperitasPSMLA is pleased to partner with Xperitas to offer one $250 mini grant annually for World Language teachers to improve existing programs, implement new ones, and promote the study of world languages.

« Xperitas is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization that has been providing students with educational language and cultural immersion experiences since 1972. Xperitas has provided teachers and students with a transformational educational experience for over fifty years. We share our founder's passion for creating the best language immersion travel programs. Our philosophy is that giving students an authentic experience outside of the classroom, within a culture other than their own, creates greater cultural awareness, which is vital in an increasingly globalized world. » 

PSMLA members who teach at any elementary or secondary level in a school with demonstrated need are eligible to apply for a $250 grant to support classroom expenses. Prior approval of the grant is required and funds can not be applied retroactively. 

Requirements: 

  1. Teacher must be a member of PSMLA in good standing.
  2. Submit this application with following information:
    1. Name of school where funds are to be used. This school must have demonstrated need (Awards committee will verify status of school).
    2. Description of program/project, its rationale, and how it will be implemented.
    3. What materials or services will be purchased. 
  3. Submission of receipts once materials/services have been purchased
  4. Teacher will submit a brief article or video describing the program and outcomes to the upcoming edition of the Pennsylvania Language Forum or our PSMLA YouTube channel. Teacher will have support creating the article or video from the Awards committee and/or PLF editors, if desired. 

Applications are due September 30.

  • Awards committee will review and choose recipient first week in October.
  • Recipients will be notified by 2nd week in October.
  • Recipients will be recognized at Fall conference.
