Use PEP to Improve your WL Program
End Goal—Improving PA Foreign Language Programs!
Whether or not you plan to apply for a PSMLA Exemplary Program (PEP) Award, you may use PEP materials to support your program! This may be a good time of year to talk to your principal (showing the PEP Rubric as support) to:
- First, thank the principal for the great schedule/program features that you have and point them out on the PEP Rubric.
- Suggest/request possible changes for the coming year.
In this way, suggestions for improvement are coming from PSMLA and not just the school staff.
There are 26 PA high schools in the 2017 PEP Showcase (a record high number)!
The Showcase not only lists the schools but also provides a description of each program. Check to see if your principal is interested in a comparison of your program and those of neighboring schools (see 2017 PEP Showcase at http://bit.ly/2rvvROx )
If you do plan to apply for a PEP Award in 2018, now is the time to collect and set aside documentation (evidence) from the current year—don’t wait to the last minute! Application information (Rubric and Indicators) may be found on the PSMLA website (see
PEP Awards at http://bit.ly/2sjuOir). Please note that the 2018 PEP Application will not come out until the fall, however, the criteria stay fairly consistent from year to year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
