PSMLA News Update

Read below for information about PSMLA membership, the PSMLA Exemplary Program (PEP) Awards process, regional professional development events, and job openings.

PSMLA Membership

Do you need to renew your membership? If so, renew your membership for one year at $50, two years at $80, or take advantage of our special three-year membership deal at $95, which will expire on January 31, 2017. Student memberships are also available for full or part-time students who are not employed as regular classroom teachers. Student membership fees are $30 for 1 year and $45 for 2 years. Do not miss out on the many member benefits PSMLA offers. PSMLA PEP Awards

For those applying for the 2017 PSMLA Exemplary Program (PEP) Awards, at least one teacher must be a PSMLA member and all PSMLA memberships count towards the PEP professional membership indicator. For more information regarding the PEP Awards process, visit http://www.psmla.net/pep-awards. Please note that the PEP Awards application deadline is Saturday, February 11, 2017.

Professional Development Opportunities

PSMLA Immersion Day (Southeastern Region)

PSMLA will host their annual Immersion Day on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia from 9:00AM to 2:30PM. Teachers of Chinese, French, German, and Spanish will have opportunities to interact with colleagues on topics related to cultural themes in the target language. In addition, teachers of all languages will explore best practices for promoting proficiency in the world language classroom during a one-hour joint presentation and have an opportunity to take part in round-table conversations on this topic afterward. Attendees who are PSMLA members will be able to earn five hours of ACT 48 credits. The cost is $35 for PSMLA members, $45 for non-members, and $20 for students with college identification. Please note that these fees include a continental breakfast and international luncheon as well as access to exhibitors. NECTFL

The Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (NECTFL) will be held from February 9-11, 2017 at the New York Hilton Midtown. To learn more about the conference and also see a complete preliminary program visit, http://www.nectfl.org/conference/.

Job Opportunities

Conestoga Valley High School (Lancaster)

Conestoga Valley High School has an opening for a Spanish teacher for levels I and III. This position is available immediately and the new hire is needed from now through the month of March. For more information contact the World Language Supervisor at Daniel_burns@conestogavalley.org.


Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior HS (Fayette County)

Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior HS (Fayette County) is seeking a full-time substitute Spanish teacher for Grades 8-12, levels 1-5.  The job could become permanent in the fall. Content certification is required. This position is available immediately. Millcreek Township School District (Erie)
