PSMLA and Messiah University invite K-12 as well as college-level world language educators to the Spring 2025 Central PA Workshop on March 22 with Amy Necci.
Amy Necci is a middle school Spanish teacher in South Central Pennsylvania. She has also been practicing yoga and mindfulness for many years and loves weaving them into her work as a public school educator. She fully believes that kids are ultimately trying to figure out this journey we call life, too, and that involves so much more than learning about the content area she teaches. As we all seek balance in our lives, Amy is especially passionate about serving youth and educators and feels strongly that learning self-support strategies can benefit anyone at any stage of life. For Amy, mindfulness, mindful movement, and other creative forms of self-support all incorporate skills that can be taken out into life to empower each unique individual. Amy has studied with Yogi Beans, Mindful Schools, and Pranakriya School of Yoga Healing Arts, where she also serves as a yoga teacher trainer.
Workshop Description:
Are you curious about how to teach the whole child in your classroom? Are you wondering how that connects to World Language learning and your curriculum? Are you at a loss as to how you might do this in the first or second year of language learning and/or how to incorporate it into higher level courses as well? We will take a deep dive into the role of the world language educator in promoting social, emotional, and behavioral wellness competencies for student academic success.
Are you also feeling burned out, overwhelmed or unable to find any time to take care of yourself and wondering how you’re supposed to focus on student wellness and connection if you struggle to find time for your own wellness? We hear you!
In this session you’ll learn simple ways to incorporate non-cognitive skills into the lessons you are already teaching in your World Language classes to help you to reach the whole student.
This workshop will also bring awareness and focused attention to educator wellbeing and offers 5 simple steps to help you to create more balance and ease in your daily life as an educator. If you struggle to find the time for self-support, this is an opportunity to get comfortable with putting yourself first on the list so that you can be at your best while bringing the same to your students.
