Translating Architecture: STEAMy inspiration from Fallingwater

Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Fallingwater, Mills Run PA

Join us as we explore teaching architectural design and the concept of ‘home’ for the modern language classroom via a world-famous work of architecture and UNESCO World Heritage site. Fallingwater was the vacation home of the Kaufmann family of Pittsburgh, wealthy department store owners who traveled the world as collectors and buyers for their store. Today, Fallingwater's collection includes fine and decorative art that was personally selected by the Kaufmanns, created by artists from around the world. Discover how virtual explorations of global architecture, including virtual field trips to Fallingwater and sites of interest in your target language, may support learning in the classroom.

Fallingwater’s team of educators will help you gather inspiration from Fallingwater and its art collection during a customized one-hour guided tour, followed by lunch, and then a two-hour hands-on workshop with strategies for implementing architectural lessons and explorations of dream homes in your target language community. You will experience new ways to use art and architecture as language tools to captivate students and enhance their sense of homes across the globe.

The workshop is limited to 32 participants.
Reservation is required in advance.
4 hours of Act 48 credit are available for PSMLA members.

Lunch will be provided.
