PSMLA teachers earn national recognition; Call to action; PD Opportunity

Congratulations to PSMLA & NECTFL Teacher of the Year Megan Flinchbaugh!

On February 14, 2020, Megan Flinchbaugh, a Manheim Central High School Spanish teacher, was awarded NECTFL Teacher of the year! She was selected out of 12 regional candidates and will now go on as one of 5 national candidates to compete for ACTFL Teacher of the year in November! A well deserved honor. We wish her all the best as she continues nationally.


Cherie Garret named 2020 NECTFL MEAD Fellow

On February 14, 2020, Dallastown Area High School teacher, Cherie Garret, was named a MEAD Fellow. The Mead Leadership Program , is designed to identify potential leaders in education and to support the development of their potential.

President´s Budget Request for Fiscal Year 2021

Educators, please read and take action:

On February 10, the White House released the President’s Budget Request for FY21 which seeks to cut numerous programs of critical interest to the Language Enterprise.  In response, JNCL-NCLIS has released an analysis highlighting the Language Enterprise’s top priorities to educate its members.

Take action now by writing to your Congressperson today!  Tell him or her to reject the President’s budget cutting.  They should reject the cuts to the Institute of Education Science and International Education and Foreign Language Programs.

8th Annual Immersive Swap Shop and Latino Cooking Demonstration

Earn Act 48 credits and enjoy a day of Spanish immersion! 8th Annual Immersive Swap Shop and Latino Cooking Demonstration: Seton Hill University, Saturday, March 7, 9:30am-2pm:

  • 9:30-10:15am: Continental breakfast, introductions, and a brief AATSP meeting.
  • 10:30am-12:30pm: Swap Shop Presentations: 10 min. mini-presentations by K-16 faculty with handouts and digital files for some of their most successful teaching activities. 
  • 12:30-2:00pm: Colombian and Venezuelan cuisine made by our renowned Latino chef Alberto Ortega. Time for immersive conversation and networking!

The event is free and open to AATSP members as well as area Modern Language teachers. Please come if you are looking for new and creative teaching ideas and interested in participating in an immersive Spanish environment. We are also pleased to offer ACT 48 credits
