PSMLA Executive Council Elections
Shortly after midnight September 1, 2016, all PSMLA members will receive a ballot via email. You must have a valid email address on the PSMLA website in order to vote. Voting is done by following the link in the email and members will be asked to choose three of the four candidates. Balloting will begin on September 1, 2016 and end at midnight on September 15, 2016.
Conferences
PSMLA Fall Conference - October 13-15, 2016
Registration is now open for the PSMLA Fall Conference! Come join us at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center in Erie where this year’s theme is Languages: The Flagship to Opportunities. The conference begins on Thursday with a Pre-Conference Workshop: “Using Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA) to Improve Instruction and Learning” conducted by Dr. Bonnie Adair-Hauck. The Schedule of Sessions for Friday and Saturday is now available on the website. There is also an optional Winery Tour planned for Friday after the conference. Be sure to register for the conference prior to September 16, 2016 to take advantage of lower rates. Book your hotel room before September 12, 2016 to use the PSMLA Code for a reduced rate. We hope to see you in Erie!
IUP Spring Methodology Conference on Foreign Language Teaching - April 21, 2017
The 2017 IUP Spring Methodology Conference on Foreign Language Teaching will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Kovalchik Convention and Athletic Center (KCAC) on the beautiful campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The keynote speaker will be Bonnie Adair-Hauck. Session proposals are now being accepted. Conference sessions may focus on any topic related to language pedagogy. Sessions should be non language-specific and feature general strategies/approaches that can be incorporated into any foreign language classroom. Proposals that include “hands on” participation are strongly encouraged. Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy (CDTCA) (Pittsburgh area) has a vacancy for a part-time Spanish teacher. The position involves teaching two days a week (ideally Mondays and Wednesdays) teaching grades K through 4 once a week and grades 5 through 8 twice a week. Pennsylvania Certification in Spanish is required. Application packets should include the following information: Pennsylvania Standard Teacher Application, resume, cover letter, current Act 34, 151, and 114 (through Pennsylvania Department of Education), clearances, copy of transcripts, copy of Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate, and two letters of professional reference.
