PSMLA Workshop in Central PA at Messiah University – April 30, 2022

PSMLA and Messiah College invite K-12 as well as college-level world language educators to the Spring 2022 Central PA Workshop on April 30.

Join 2018 PSMLA Teacher of the Year Dr. Rich Madel for an interactive workshop on promoting intercultural competence through accessing target cultural perspectives in the target language via Glisan and Donato’s (2017) IMAGE Model.  Rich will demonstrate how compelling images, realia, and authentic resources can be used in this model to explore and compare cultural products, practices, and perspectives in the world language classroom.  Additionally, Rich will show how this model is grounded in ACTFL Standards and can promote growth within a standards-based grading system.  Participants will leave with a template of how to apply this model in their classroom, and time will be devoted to answering questions on best practices in cultural instruction.  This workshop is appropriate for teachers of all levels and languages.

Participants are encouraged to bring a target culture text or resource already being used in class to develop or co-construct.

Registration includes a continental breakfast as well as a lunch with conversation in the target language.

PSMLA members register at a reduced rate.  Non-members may become members prior to the workshop to take advantage of the $10 member discount and extended membership through June 2023.  Members of the AATF Susquehanna Valley Chapter also register at a reduced rate and will hold their chapter meeting during lunch.  Please note our refund policy.

PSMLA members can earn 3 Act 48 hours.  All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
