PSMLA and Dickinson College invite K-12 as well as university world language teachers to a workshop on integrating visual arts in the classroom on November 3.
Join us for an engaging morning of professional development at Dickinson College. This interactive workshop will focus on strategies for integrating art in the world language classroom. Attendees will take a guided tour of The Trout Gallery, Dickinson’s on-campus art gallery—recipient of the 2017 PSMLA Merit Award and 2018 NECTFL Dodge Award. To preview the exhibits on display, visit The Trout Gallery homepage.
Attendees will first tour the gallery in French, German, or Spanish. The docent will lead activities that teachers can use in an art gallery or in their classroom to communicate in the target language with art as the inspiration. Following the tour, all will attend a hands-on session led by Kathy Fegely, retired middle school and high school language teacher, on using art in the classroom. Table talks on implementation and idea sharing will take place over lunch.
Registration is free to current PSMLA or AATF Susquehanna Valley members and includes continental breakfast, tour, workshop materials, and lunch. Each attendee may also register one high school or college student who has an interest in language education or a new teacher (in the first three years of career) to join us; unfortunately, we do not have space for family and friends. Registration is limited to 30 participants, after which a wait list will be used.
PSMLA members can earn 3 Act 48 hours. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
