Fallingwater Workshop

Update: We are excited to announce our ongoing partnership with Fallingwater! PSMLA has provided brochure translations in seven languages for the many international guests who visit this UNESCO World Heritage site right in our backyard. In exchange, Fallingwater’s Educational team has designed a lesson for language classes to design their dream home using Fallingwater as inspiration. MEMBERSHIP BENEFIT: This lesson is available to all PSMLA members as well as FREE virtual field trip for your students.  In addition, Fallingwater has funding for PSMLA members to bring students FREE OF CHARGE for an in-person field trip. Any interested PSMLA members should contact natalie@psmla.org for further information.

Translating Architecture: STEAMy Inspiration from Fallingwater

Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Fallingwater, Mill Run PA

Join us as we explore teaching architectural design and the concept of ‘home’ for the modern language classroom via a world-famous work of architecture and UNESCO World Heritage site. Fallingwater was the vacation home of the Kaufmann family of Pittsburgh, wealthy department store owners who traveled the world as collectors and buyers for their store. Today, Fallingwater's collection includes fine and decorative art that was personally selected by the Kaufmanns, created by artists from around the world. Discover how virtual explorations of global architecture, including virtual field trips to Fallingwater and sites of interest in your target language, may support learning in the classroom.

Fallingwater’s team of educators will help you gather inspiration from Fallingwater and its art collection during a customized one-hour guided tour followed by a hands-on workshop with strategies for implementing architectural lessons and explorations of dream homes in your target language community. You will experience new ways to use art and architecture as language tools to captivate students and enhance their sense of homes across the globe.

The workshop is limited to 32 participants. Reservation is required in advance.

This experience is for PSMLA members only due to limited space on tours/in workshop area.

Self-pay lunch/refreshments are available at Fallingwater Cafe.
