PSMLA and Messiah University invite K-12 and college-level world language educators to the Spring 2026 Central PA Workshop on Saturday, March 28, featuring Sarah Dutton.

Sarah Dutton, M.Ed, is a world language educator with over 28 years of experience who currently teaches Medical Spanish courses at the university level. She is a Center for Clinician Multilingualism Verified POLOM Rater and is an award-winning amateur gingerbread artist.

Workshop Description

In today’s classrooms, curiosity is the spark that drives authentic learning. But in an age where AI can answer almost any question, how do we keep that spark alive? This engaging seminar will equip world language teachers with practical strategies to cultivate both interest and deprivation curiosity through meaningful activities. We’ll explore the three dimensions of curiosity—diversive, epistemic, and empathic—and uncover how each one can transform student engagement in the language classroom. Along the way, we’ll discuss ethical ways to harness AI tools, ensuring technology deepens inquiry rather than replacing it. By doing so, we’ll empower students to ask better questions, form authentic connections, and pursue knowledge with purpose. Leave inspired, equipped, and ready to create a classroom where curiosity is not only awakened but sustained.
